Katy Perry: "I Didn't Have a Childhood"

Katy Perry is a pop icon these days -- but growing up the child of born-again evangelical-ministers, the "E.T." singer had zero access to much of the "real" secular world.

"I didn't have a childhood," Perry, 26, tells the new Vanity Fair, noting that her mom forbade her from reading any books except the Bible -- and that words like "deviled eggs" or "Dirt Devil" were verboten.

The platinum-selling star wasn't allowed to listen to pop music, and relied on friends to sneak her CDs.

When Perry became sexually active, she had to secretly visit a Planned Parenthood clinic to get educated about birth control. "It was considered like the abortion clinic...I was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there," she admits to the magazine. "I didn't know it was more than that, that it was for women and their needs."

But she and her parents have resolved their religious and political differences, she says. "I think sometimes when children grow up, their parents grow up,...Mine grew up with me. We coexist. I don't try to change them anymore, and I don't think they try to change me. We agree to disagree."

Plus, like any parents, her huge stardom is thrilling to them. "They're excited about [my success]. They're happy that things are going well for their three children and that they're not on drugs. Or in prison."

She and her husband Russell Brand also don't see exactly eye to eye when it comes to spiritual practices. "Russell is into Hinduism, and I'm not [really] involved in it. He meditates in the morning and the evening; I'm starting to do it more because it really centers me. [But] I just let him be him, and he let's me be me," she says.

"[He] never lied to me once. I trust him; there's just a level of trust that we've built up."

Russell Brand and Katy perry to make sex tape

Russell Brand joked that he and pop-star finacee Katie Perry would definitely make a sex tape together.

Brand, 35, answered in good humour when asked if he and pop-star finacee, 25 might ever work in a movie together. "We''ll do a sex tape! Give them what they want!" People magazine quoted Brand as saying.

"It takes up enough of my time to be in love with her. Negotiating in films is very, very hard. Imagine trying to direct someone you really love - it would be a [expletive] nightmare," Brand said.

"I've found someone who is singularly important to me, so it means compromise, growing up and all the things they tell you in school," he said.

"Love between two people is the most spectacular yet ordinary thing in the world," Brand added.

Russell Brand prepared for his forthcoming wedding to Katy Perry during his bachelor party last weekend (26Sep10) - by gatecrashing an Indian marriage ceremony.


The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star, who proposed to the singer during atrip to India, was celebrating his last weeks as a single man with rocker Noel Gallagher and comic David Walliams at The Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire, England.


And after realising he was sharing the venue with an Indian wedding party, he joined in the festivities, posing for snaps with guests and dancing before he was hoisted onto the shoulders of a young reveller - much to the annoyance of the groom.


But Russell just kept on dancing. A party-goer tells Britain's News of the World, "Russell completely took over and was dancing away at the reception. The groom wasn't very happyabout the fact that the spotlight had been taken away from him and his new bride. "He went over to the DJ who was playing English tunes and asked him to change the music to more Asian music in a bid to get Russell to stop dancing.

Russell Brand had a sex team to help him choose girl

Funnyman Russell Brand has revealed that he had a sex team, who searched girls for him, when he was at his promiscuous best. The Englishman said that the group followed his specific instructions, when looking for a woman.

"When I was at my most promiscuous, I was like a charging locomotive. My selection process was outsourced,” the Sun quoted him, as telling Playboy magazine. He added: "I had a team of experts who took care of finding women for me. They had very specific instructions. It was as if I was talking to a wine steward - I'm looking for something French, a bit fruity, smells of oak.”

However, Brand, who is now dating singer Katy Perry, insists he is a changed man. He said: "I've reached a point in my life where I understand empirically that this is not the answer. When you sleep with loads of women, it becomes a bit pointless and futile."

Also, he dismissed suggestions that he had a gala time in sex rehab. He said: "The majority of people in sex rehab are just disgusting men. There aren't hot blondes ripping off their clothes and saying, I'm gorgeous, and I just can't get enough! It's just sleazy men pleasuring themselves in dark corners. Let's not shy away from it: they're paedophiles and perverts. I'm sorry if I burst your bubble and took some of the magic out of it."
